What matters is the innocent joy

Dogs or cats?

There is absence of any form of doubt regarding dogs and cats being the most popular of the animal world living in the human societies. Their ability to blend into our lives and share our love and affection, has allowed an entire world to develop around them.

We share a wide and long history with our furry compadres. Their predecessors have witnessed the rise fall of several of our civilisations and their decedents are with us right to this present day. If they had the intellect of a human, I am sure they would have quite a lot to say about how we did and do things.

Dogs and cats are delightful pets who liven our households, family bonding, but most importantly our lives. One can rarely come across someone whose family had never consisted of a dog or a cat, even if it was in the past.

I have had the wonderful experience of interacting with both of these wondrous living beings. Within the walls of my paternal grandfather’s garden a few cats had found a safe harbour. Although they had the habit of not staying for long, but a person was sure to come across at least one of them around. I particularly remember a white cat with black patches on its body, it has a special spot in my early childhood. I would meet her almost every day in late afternoon, and it was as if she came just for me. I remember how I would sit and watch television and there she would come mewing on the door and I knew she had come.

The rest of my life has pretty much revolved around dogs, be it stray street dogs or my own pet dogs. I don’t think there is anything I can compare to the happiness of finding a dog waiting for with all the eagerness in the world. In those two little eyes lies endless unconditional love which never disappears even on their last days. My pet dogs whom I only call pets for reference, have been nothing less than a family to us, we have never treated them any less than how we would treat each other. My parents have always considered them as their own child. It has been a while since we have had a cat in family but I would love to welcome one someday.

Dogs and cats will continue remain among us as long as we welcome them with open hearts and are able to understand the love, they share with us.
