Anuran’s Take
It was a holiday; hence it was a customary holiday routine of mine to look for places which dust had started to occupy and win it back. Today it was a place with a bunch of books and other notebooks. A particular notebook of my grandfather contained various lifestyle related clippings from different periodicals. Yes, there was a time when that was how people used to archive information.
As I picked it up the notebook to clean its cover, a piece of paper slipped out. I bent down to pick it up. The text on it was self-written, but the heading was what caught my attention, it read ‘Are you happy?’. Was I? I wasn’t sad for sure but was I happy, in this particular moment, partially covered in dust and with a lot of work remaining? Well just because I wasn’t sad didn’t mean I was happy, there is fair bit of ground between both.
Whether we like it or not there are certain conditions which are required in order to be happy. No one can always be happy; of course, with the right motivation and subsequent appropriate feelings support that motivation, one can be happy whenever he or she wants. At the same time, we have to accept that sadness is just as much part of our lives as happiness is. I feel it is better not to dwell too much into either.
There are quite a few things that make me happy. There is always the safety, happiness and support of my family and also comraderies of friends. I also feel happy when hunger has invaded my mind and body, and then I come across my favourite eatable. There are days when I wake up full of energy feeling I can tackle any challenges life throws at me today, those days makes me feel happy. Reading a good book or watching a good movie makes me happy because they give me a lot of good things to think about. Whenever I learn something new, I am happy and if my learning or actions can help someone it makes me happier. Good music, it is one thing that can make me happy almost at any time of my life. There many more things and reasons for me to be happy. I guess there are always more than what I give life credit for and it might be true for other as well.
