What major historical events do you remember?
The road was still….. still with absence of frequent human presence. It mostly interacted with the passing breeze and was walked upon often by different insects, squirrels and street dogs. Occasionally different perching birds landed on its surfaces, hopping around, playing with each other, looking for food or any material instrumental in building of their nest.
One day a multi-coloured beach ball came bouncing on the road and it was followed by two small running feet of Vivaan. He tried to get hold of the ball, failed quite a few times as it seemed to escape the grip of his small hands. Finally, the ball came to rest against the fence of a house where Vivaan picked it up. The red colour of the ball reflected on Vivaan’s yellow t shirt as the Sun shone.
After making a successful retrieval of the beach ball, Vivaan stared at the empty road. The silence was something he had never experienced nor had it been part of the many imaginations he had every day. His parents had told him that there was a monster out there making people sick. So, everyone was in their homes hiding from it, being safe. Vivaan adjusted his mask which had dropped down his nose, and rushed back home.
The outbreak of the coronavirus was a devastating major historical event. It changed countless lives in a manner which I had not ever experienced before. It changed the way we lived life itself.
Yes, I know the history of human beings has been subject to graver events and even now in different places people continue to suffer the consequence of war and violence, however, the covid outbreak is the one I got to experience personally along with many others across the globe. I experienced the fear within as well as in voice and eyes of many people. The ringtones of smartphones became a terror. In waves it came and it seemed with each once it just took away more and more.
I hope something like this never happens to anyone ever again and a way can be found to quench the fire of conflict across the globe which burns through the lives of many.
