Who is the most famous or infamous person you have ever met?
In the world we live in at the present, there are a many famous people, by many I mean there are literally a lot of famous people out there. You can meet one or multiple famous people in just one part of a neighbourhood.
Social media has brought the world at one place, that is online, and social media by itself has become a field which has made many people famous. It is a wonderful thing to see that people from anywhere can showcase their hard work and talent and become known for them. It has expanded the parameters of being known in this world.
I have come across several famous people in my lifetime; they were mostly people doing exceptional work in their fields of interest. Some of them have been from before the social media era as well. I have always maintained my distance from the infamous ones, but one in particular had caught my interest while I was a student in school.
This was when I was a student in 11th grade of school. Back then just anything out of the ordinary was enough to make children of my age group excited and interested. The sense of segregating things as to what was good and bad for us was still in developmental stage.
The son of a wealthy businessman in our class had an infamous notorious elder brother. This notorious brother was a student of another school. I don’t exactly know how notorious he actually was or was he even notorious in the first place but that is how children knew him. Adults were not really our source of reference in such matter at this point.
This infamous guy apparently had a gang of people who followed him, and some of my classmates would speak of how they were involved in fights here and there, how feared people were of him. Apparently, teachers were afraid to fail him and police were afraid to jail him. This was the first time I realised there can be someone superior to teachers and even the police. I will not lie; it sounded quite cool that time. Some even gave reference to knowing this guy in an attempt to make their own fame.
I have never really seen this infamous guy in person. I saw him the first time in a picture online after I had completed my schooling. What I saw was a dangerously overweight guy with traces of chewable tobacco on the lips. Nothing from his appearance indicated that he was who we had thought he was. I forgot about him.
Several years later, I got the news that our infamous guy had departed from this world. His wealthy father had got posters announcing his demise pasted around the neighbourhood and had even started a free ambulance service in his name.
My eyes fell on one of the posters while I was buying vegetables from a greengrocer. The greengrocer has been here for many years, he was well aware of all happenings in the neighbourhood over the years. So, just out of curiosity behind the infamous rumour, I asked him, ‘Who is this guy? Do you know him?’. The greengrocer looked at the poster for a second and replied ‘not really’ and got back to his work, and that ended the rumour forever, the infamous guy was apparently not infamous at all.

Its amazing how a ‘Daily Prompt” prompted you to pen this story. Sad affair of things but kirstencosta commented above, such youngsters need help, timely help.
As far as the story goes, your finishing touch was awesome. I was wondering how will the story be complete. The greengrocer part was a gem to end the story so elegantly.

Wow, what an amazing and sad story. I have known a few people like that. What happens to them later is always the same. Those are the kids that need help while their still young, to hopefully change the end result. It’s sad.
