The fun of it

List five things you do for fun.

As the sky went for a slow spin, the Sun sank and the Moon came up. That is when I sat on the chair with a controller in hand with the screen of the television still showing the little animation of the console still loading.

Playing games on console is one of the things I do for fun, I have been doing it for a while since the games used come contained in cartridges. It used to happen naturally for us who are from before all this social media and video/reel era. If it was free time and it wasn’t time to go out and play you headed straight for the PC or console to play games.

It feels a little forced nowadays with me convincing myself to sit down and play the games before someone says the obvious one day “you no longer play with that thing, why don’t you give it away?”.

No social media did not win and it never will, there is just a lot to keep in mind about life as you grow up and soon you will be juggling what you love and what is practically important in an attempt to maintain a work-life balance.

I also like reading books, I have shelves of them and stacks of them, I have them beyond knowing what I will do with them and books are something whose presence will never be questioned even if they are swallowing up your entire study room. But I would say reading is more about experience for me rather than fun. Books have taught me to imagine the experience and that too in great depths. That is why I sit and write in an attempt to pour it out as closely as I can to the real thing in my mind.

But books do have a part which I do for fun, that is the movies made on them. That is how I started watching movies. I love watching movies, especially the ones made on books and then I came across several such directors whose movies are so beautifully made that it seems like they are from a well-written book.

Watching movies still comes naturally to me, one can say it does not involve the extra steps of pushing buttons on a game controller and the mind constantly being on edge, although the jump scares of the horror genre do still give me the chills. I believe I still close my eyes once or twice while watching a horror movie, it’s something not even the people closest to me know about me.

The internet despite all its glaring flaws did provide us with various interesting things as well, two among them are things that I have fun doing, 1. Listening to music 2. Listening to podcast, with latter surprising me to no end when I came across it. I had never realised podcasts could be so fun and interesting, I have been through a lot of them telling stories, new and old, some original, some based on books.

So, I guess that’s four things that I have mentioned that I extract the element of fun out of. I will mention, what all I like to do for fun exceeds more than just four or five points and the other things I like to do might have more of the fun factor than the ones I have mentioned here, but at this moment these are the four that are within the easy reach of my mind.

Well.. let’s end it shall we. The fifth, this is the most complex one out of all and yet for the most part beautiful, that is gaining new experiences. This one I did not realise until I had become a part of adult life, the newness of life in various forms is really fun to explore. While I may leave the world not having experienced a lot, but for everything that I will get to I will always be excited.
