The Cold Blend

How do you feel about cold weather?

Just the day before, the temperature crossed 40°C and the weather application said that it felt like 50°C and I wished I didn’t read the ‘felt’ part, because since then I actually started feeling it.

The worst part about this kind of weather is that it will test your resolve to go through the day as you normally do any other day, without any reduction in positivity and motivation. It will make you tired, uncomfortable, make you doubt your clothing choices with ‘maybe there is something lighter somewhere in the cupboard’.

Then there is the air conditioner, I won’t lie, it is a relief in such kind of weather despite very effectively burning through the pocket by running the electricity bill off the roof. But all that artificial cooling is never up to the satisfaction and if anything, I think it makes people wanting to be confined to places which are ‘air conditioned’, and that’s exactly what shopping malls take advantage of, the place where some people think they can be in a cool environment for free, but it’s a scam and they will end up spending money no matter what.

Hot weather was always there but it didn’t used to be this discomforting. I remember playing out even during hot weather during the weekends and summer vacations and there was no problem, but now playgrounds remain vacant during holidays. It’s not only the heat that has unbearably gone up but kids nowadays are too much cradled into the idea of homely comfort addicted to their gadgets.

My relationship with cold weather is a bit complex, especially during winter months. Initially my attraction to cold weather was restricted to movies and cartoons as a kid and no not because I would fall sick during a cold weather, it was because the slightest sneeze would result in a series of interference in my privacy from my family members as to what to wear and what to eat, what all to avoid, restrictions in going outside because of the cold winds; I mean I had no problem staying at home but I definitely had problem with what came next in form of ‘do your homework and study’.

I love cold weather now, especially since I had a bit of a blood pressure problem which is very effectively under control now. But on a serious note, it, helps in lowering burnout of energy thus allowing me to do more work comfortably, increases mileage of car since air conditioner is no longer required, saves a lot on electricity bills, allows me to enjoy my favourite cup of coffee to the fullest,  pushes to write with a mind which doesn’t seem to get tired of the endless supply of ideas erupting and most importantly it inspires the mind to go out and do some observing and exploring.
