What is LED Treatment?
The treatment for the skin and other body parts are not restricted to only medicine. Science and Technology have stretched out the fields of treatment and therapies one such therapy is LED treatment or LED therapy. This was first developed in NASA for growing plants but now it is used by the aesthetics for skin treatment or for ageing or acne. There are various types and steps of doing this treatment.
How LED therapy works?
LED treatment is also known as light emitted diode treatment. This type of treatment includes an LED light emission of various wavelengths. Reed or blue lights are emitted for the treatment of skin issues. The type of skin issues that are treated through this treatment are-
- acne
- inflammation reduction
- promoting anti-ageing effects, etc.
This treatment does not use ultraviolet rays therefore they are safe to use. It also doesn’t cause any kind of burn after treatment. It also helps to improve the skin as time goes by. It needs maintenance treatment after the therapy. It costs almost $25 to $85 for LED treatment alone while home LED treatment and costs $25 to $250 or even more than that if combined with some other skin treatment.
What is the procedure of LED treatment?
This treatment is safe and secure and it takes very less time. It takes only 20 minutes for this treatment to complete. Almost 10 different treatments are depending on the results expected by the clients. There are variations like direct treatment under the light or use of LED light-infused directly which depends on the type of treatment or the treatment area.
There are also home procedures that include treating buy LED light at home with the help of home devices. The devices include LED masks or wands. These are applied to the face for a few minutes and they can be taken care of easily by carefully following the instructions given.
Types of LED treatment?
Although there are many types of treatments, that is, more than 10 types of treatment available as the LED treatment therapy there are two different main types –
- through red light
- through blue light
Red light or infrared light – used for treating the epidermis. This is the outer layer of the skin. It helps the skin to become more absorbent and stimulate collagen proteins. This results in smooth and fuller skin. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to reduce inflammation and promotes a healthy glow and improves blood circulation.
The blue light- used for the treatment of sebaceous glands which is also known as oil glands. These glands are located under the hair follicles. They promote the lubrication of the skin and hair so that they retain the required moisture. Sometimes, these glands become overactive and make the skin oily and increase acne. In this treatment, the glands are treated so that they release less oil and ultimately they reduce the acne breakouts. They also destroy the acne-causing bacteria under the skin and treat pimples, cysts and nodules. Also, help to decrease bus cars and it promotes anti-inflammatory effects.
What are the side effects of LED treatment?
The LED treatment therapy does not use UV rays for the treatment so they are safer and they don’t damage the skin in the long term. This particular treatment is non-invasive and it has very few risks. People who have dark or sensitive skin are mostly recommended with LED light. It doesn’t cause any pain or burning sensation.
After all these benefits, there are certain risks related to this type of treatment. People who use Accutane drugs for their acne treatment should not get this treatment because Accutane is a vitamin A derived drug that increases skin sensitivity towards light. People who are sensitive to sunlight should not go for this therapy. People who have rashes should avoid LED treatment. In the case of Psoriasis, it should only be preferred when the previous treatments do not cause any side effect with this one. There are very less and rare side effects such as-
- it may increase the inflammation
- can cause redness
- can cause Rash
- can cause pain
- can cause tenderness or hives
