The Return

It was a rumour, but a naively interesting one. It was not something usual, or even if it was, it was unheard of in reality, maybe kept a secret. When thought about practically it made no sense, can someone come this far at a cost great to bear for an emotion that is still felt, for someone who may have moved on.

Naksh Damle had returned to his humble home town, back to his late parents’ house that had no human presence in it for quite some years. Work began for what would become the clinic of a general physician. Naksh left his speciality, at a big hospital in a big city and had returned.

Some said the work pressure broke him, some said it had something to do with property, but the most popular reason was that he had come for someone. That person was the reason he had not sold the house these years and now he was back successful in his profession.

Now this was all but a rumour based on a past relation that Naksh shared with a girl, Binita. She was married off by the family while he was still studying. The end didn’t go well, at that point neither of them felt life was fair but were forced to accept the reality.

Did they reunite on social media? The rumours said so, and now Naksh was here. Everyone waited for the day Binita would come to visit her parents’ house. Meanwhile Naksh became busy with his clinic.

When Binita finally came, along with her children, the neighbourhood expected a new story to unravel, the result of their patience. The sun would bring to light, that which was a mystery beneath the clouds.

Binita came to her parents’ house, she stayed, she went away after a week and Naksh remained busy with his clinic. No interaction occurred and a few months later, Naksh’s wife moved in with him along with their daughter. People realised what they were waiting for was a waste of time, but none would accept that and blamed others for the anticipation.
