There was silence aroundโฆ apart from sounds which had blended in with the silence with timeโฆ sound from typing of the keys, turning of pages, keeping the pen down on table, someone moving the chair to get up or sit down and sometimes the occasional coughs or whispers of people discussing work. The day at office was coming to an end. As the clock struck 6, after a while people started preparing to go home.

I shut down my computer, tidied my desk, packed my bag and checked for any essential messages on my phone. I picked my bag and proceeded towards the stairs, meeting a few people on the way. I liked using the stairs rather than the lift, because very less people preferred using the stairs, hence the emptiness of the stairs allowed me to have a thought or two about how the day had been.
As I came out of the office and started walking on the road, a hand rested itself on my right shoulder from the back.
โArenโt you in a bit of hurry todayโ. I knew that voice, it was Samit. He worked in another company, sometimes we came across each other on our way out and took the same bus chatting along as long as our path remained the same.
โHow have you been?โ I asked as I turned to face him. โNot bad. How is your work going?โ he said as we continued walking side by side. โThe usual, you know,โ I replied.
We talked about a few more things as we walked ahead, we were near the bus stand. โI hope you have some time to spare. Letโs have ice cream,โ said Samit as he looked at me and at the vendor selling ice cream. โLike always, sure why not,โ I said with a slight hint of tiredness. There was this thing with Samit, he always wanted to have ice cream near the bus stand.
โYou certainly love eating ice cream, donโt you?โ I said it as I had been thinking of saying for a while. Samit smiled as he ate his ice cream, โYou see back in the village where my family lives, an ice cream was a rare delicacy once. My father was a child back then, and the village was still awaiting a proper brush of development to take place. Everyone had heard so much about this cold sweet eatable which comes in various colours, but most of them had not eaten one in their life. So, when ice cream finally reached the village, it was a great rejoice. Everyone enjoyed having it like there was nothing better. The emotion still remains there to this day and somehow it is part of me as well.โ
I looked at the ice cream in my hand and imagined, an entire village happily enjoying ice cream together. It must have been a unique sight and experience.

You seem to have a knack for writing, taking your reader with you, I was almost there going down the stairs of your office and seeing Samit put his hand on your right shoulder. ๐
Samit’s village must have been far off the main grid otherwise difficult to imagine a place where ice-cream reached so late.
Keep writing, keep sharing. Stay blessed.
