If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?
Words…. Where would we be without them? They are one of the most helpful and sensible creation of humankind. They have.. for a long time now, allowed us to express ourselves to each other in various forms through different mediums.
The significance of words in our lives is such that we begin our journey with them right from the start of a human life…. eagerly wait for an infant to utter his/her first words so that the journey of understanding each other deeper begins at the earliest possible phase of life.
We even associate words with beings who are incapable of producing them themselves, for example my dog, many times I feel she understands me better than any person out there. Whenever, I speak to her and she listens very carefully, and sometimes I just have this tiniest bit of feeling that she might utter a word or two one day even if just for once.
Human beings have spent a lot of time with words, developing them further and further with people adopting their own ways of presenting them to each other. There are around 7000 languages out that are being used by people and all languages having their own set of words.
If there are words that I would give up on, believing it is for the better of everyone as well as myself, then I feel those words would certainly fall into the domain of slangs. Slangs are regarded by many as the negative elements or anomaly in the world of words, but one cannot deny they have an attraction of their own, given that they are used by a significant part of the population across the world. But, I think with a little effort we can get over our habit of using them, after all there is a world full of beautiful words out there, why not try and use them creatively.

One response to “A Thought of Words”
Well said. We should adapt the beauty of words .My little boy ,the first word he spoke was Ba which he called my mother ,his grandmother(nani). Which as a big boy ,he continues to call her today. While she would sit for her prayers, the little boy would sit on her lap ,clap his hand and chant ba-ba-ba rhythmically. This is the beauty of the first word the child speaks.
