The Non-digitised Version

Your life without a computer: what does it look like?

Here I am, sitting with the keys of my computer just beneath my fingers. My fingers are continuously moving and pressing the keys which will make the intended letters appear on the screen forming the word, the sentence, the paragraph I have in my mind. Simultaneously, I use my mouse, rotating the trackball to move the pointer towards what I intend to select with a click of button. I also adjust the music that I am listening to in my earbuds using the music app in my computer.

So, what happens when if someone comes and takes it all away. What am I left with? My smartphone maybe, but that’s a computing device too, so let’s consider it gone as well. So, here I am sitting at the table with nothing on it, and I want to write my thoughts and I suddenly realise…. it has been a while since I have written extensively using a pen on a paper.

Even if I were to use a pen and paper and write down what I am writing now, I doubt my fingers after a while will be able to keep up, because they have been out of touch of writing long content with a pen for such a long time. Well let’s skip to the part where I still manage to write it down, now what do I with it? I cannot post it online with the absence of my computing devices. Let’s say every computing device I can think of using is just out of my reach for one reason or the other, like β€˜this was supposed to happen no matter what’.

So, my next best option is probably sending what I have written to a newspaper or a magazine through post and hope they will find it good enough to post it in their periodical; and if they do, somehow, I am able to find it…. but wait a minute, I don’t get a physical newspaper or magazine anymore, I read them through their websites or applications…. Well, there is still hope, maybe someone I know finds it published and tells me about it.

However, where am I going to find the address to which I want to post my writing.. I am stuck aren’t I. Well, there is still my family who will be happy to read what I have written. So glad there is no way families are turning into an application as well.

Nevertheless, I accept that there is no practical way of ignoring computers in the time we live in. There was certainly a brief period in my childhood when there was no computer in my household or for that matter any other household. They were a pretty expensive electronic item to own back then.

Life may not have been this convenient back then but it wasn’t worse or bad in any manner now that I think about it. In fact, I would even go ahead and say more children were out there in the playground and more people outside interacting with each other in the physical world since they didn’t have smartphones, computers and gaming consoles to play games in or go through online content.
