Everyday Moments

My position was not a comfortable one. I was sitting on what was the remaining portion of the seat; very small space but I had become quite proficient at ignoring the discomfort by now.

It was crowded, nothing unusual. Every day, crowds of people returned home from work, the same in the morning when they headed to their work.
People skilled in a variety of different professions were present right here, part of this very crowd.

Some people had become acquainted with each other and usually timed their travel together. I had one such friend too; I never realised how much I enjoyed the conversations until they were over forever. It was a heart problem; I would later learn. He never told me about it.
Light rushed in through the window, illuminating everything it touched for a few seconds. The market had come, every day in the evening, the lights came in through the window and even though everyone saw the market every day, yet they paused to see it once more the next day. I sometimes try to imagine the white and yellow lights reflecting on the eyes of people as they remain enchanted for a few seconds.

The sound of a lady reached my ear, I took attention of it since it was important. It was about my destination which was about to come. I looked at the speaker to focus more on the voice that repeated the upcoming destination in the language that was prevalent among the local population here.

I asked the gentleman standing right in front of me to excuse me as I stood from my seat. I adjusted my body to a standing posture, then I picked up my bag which I had kept balanced between my legs all this while.

I made my way to the exit slowly through the crowd. It was quite a problem when I had started travelling on regular basis for work; but now I can say I am quite experienced at navigating myself through crowd of people.

The train came at a temporary halt at the station. I got down and readjusted the shoulder strap of my bag. This station is where my regular working days come to an end. The moment I set foot here, my world begins. My house is at a walking distance from here. Outside the station is the road I have grown up walking on, a neighbourhood full of people whom I have known for many years and most importantly in the neighbourhood was my house in which lives my family.

I give one last glance at the now departing train. Well, until tomorrow then.
