Moonlit Stroll

On night, I couldn’t find any trace of sleep in any part of my mind and my body did not seem to be all that tired as well. It wasn’t odd for me in my comparatively younger days, but it was certainly now; since nowadays at the end of the day I am sufficiently tired to let sleep easily catch me. Now, I remained awake looking at the white ceiling which didn’t look very white because of the dim night light.

So, I moved aside the red mink blanket and got up sitting upright, then I moved my legs down towards the floor and slipped my foot into my recently bought and very comfortable pair of slippers.

I stood up and as I mentioned earlier, the night light was on since I had not gone to sleep and I usually switch it off right when I know for certain that sleep was winning over my awake consciousness.

I looked at the mirror in front of the bed and asked my reflection, “What now?” and then I imagined my reflection replying back, “How about a stroll on the terrace.” That was a splendid idea, wonder why I didn’t think of it myself.

I went to the cupboard and opened it, the cupboard doors made creaking sounds as I opened them. Well, the cupboard was quite old and needed a little maintenance; that’s what I have been telling myself for years now.

I took out my hoodie jacket, and close the cupboard doors. I put on the jacket, then my specs which I had difficulty in finding since I had carelessly placed it somewhere on the bed.

I opened the door of my room and waited for the mildly cold air of the passage to come in contact with my physical self, accompanied by light shiver. All right I was now accustomed to the cold of the night. Next, I closed the door and made my way towards the staircase.

As I took each step, with one foot lifting off the floor and another landing, I realised something, the silence in the house; it was a comfortable silence. Everyone was comfortably sleeping in their beds.

I switched on the light of the stairs and then put one hand on the stair case railing proceeded by the movement of a feet rising towards the first step. I slowly went up the terrace, there was no hurry, the whole night was mine and mine alone; after all I was one of the few odd ones who were up at this time.

There was an obvious cold of lower temperature outside on the terrace. I walked to the hand railing at the edge of the terrace and looked down at the road below. There was no one, just the street lights making sure people didn’t have to face darkness when they passed by and the moon making sure to be a peaceful sight in the night sky.

This was it; this is when I am happy, not always, but mostly. Alone in silence, me and my thoughts conversating with each other. Let’s just say we have a good time together.
