It was 2080,
In one lovely afternoon….
winter with the time of sweets, patali gur (Gur is jaggery in Bengali) and aroma of authentic saak (Green leafy vegetables in Bengali) it’s the time of making pithe and payesh.
Bengali household tales.
This winter was special not just of prime sweet culture but also the only son of this family was going to get married.
All were excited.
With the house getting decoration of the lights, home made sweets being prepared and here the girl his beloved was coming along with 8 other people .
The marriage of two different states New Delhi and West Bengal.
With pomp and welcoming of the December and the dominant excitement of the marriage everything went fine.
This is the story which the old grandmother- in- law was narrating to her grand daughter in law while making the Bengali sweet ”chanar jilipi”
The day of her marriage and it was really unique in their family.
This grandmother was in her 80’s still remembers vividly this day and the grandfather was 87.
Grandmother said…
You know that day was post the pandemic covid, you were not still born then…we had to go through this pandemic for Covid 19 there was so much to dwell. Though our marriage dates was not shifted due to this pandemic but it for my master’s examination and some other cause but covid made everything so different…
With the tension in my heart and lots of thoughts I came here in Delhi with my parents and few relatives. The sole motive was marriage..
As they were speaking they kept on making the sweet. While they were making the grandfather was sitting was watching his all time favourite anime show. He has always fond of this show… Now sometimes also he writes about this show .. he has always written in his lifetime.. many books, blogs and infinite memories the grandparents have created…
While the grandmother kept on narrating the story it was grandfather’s duty to add few details and make the story exciting and interesting..and most importantly pulling the grandmother’s leg…
You know how many people were invited in our wedding it was very less ..you know right such an difficult situation it was for all of us..so difficult…
The grandparents always knows this difficult situation was indeed very difficult.. may be some days later I will tell you in much details…
But you know whoever awaits for your big day …may or may not be with you to celebrate but their blessings and their presence which you cannot see is something which is sure to be there…
All of them were in teary eyes.
With this story they made the chanar jilipi” …the only thing which was left was to fry in the oven . Cherry brown fry.
Till now the room was full of fragrance of ghee , khoya and moida.
Winter means joyous moment, aroma and lots of memories being rekindled.
Again.
They made the chanar jilipi” and everyone of the family ate with lots of fun and enjoyment.
