It shall Remain

Share one of the best gifts you’ve ever received.

The tents had been placed, the chairs were arranged, the lights and pedestal fans were connected.

The children were running around and the adults were reminiscing in talks of the past, happenings of the present and the glimpses of a perceived future.

The marriage was a family event which had resulted in all the family members gathering at the one place after a long time.

It was the marriage of one of my mother’s cousins. My grandfather’s paternal house was big enough for the organisation of an event of such magnitude.

It used to be a big and close knit family.
It can also be said it was that phase in the timeline of the family. Who knew back then, these same small children running, playing and dancing around would grow up, fall apart and the family would scatter. People today certainly love their freedom and privacy but it’s also surprising how so many of them eventually end up suffering from loneliness.

I was one of the attractions of the marriage. I was small and I was my maternal grandfather’s grandson.

My grandfather was a popular and respected member of the family, and thus there was an, if it can be called a natural curiosity to meet his small grandson and to be honest my grandfather did not spare any effort to make the people of the world aware of my existence.

It was one of those things that people remember to this day, my paternal grandfather with a small me, exploring the world. They smile when they talk about it. Our bond is well remembered by all and especially by me.

I don’t think I had done anything particular in life to make my grandfather proud while he was still in this world, but nonetheless he loved me with all his heart and I wish I had the understanding to do the same for him.

I consider this bond one of the greatest gifts of my life and I sincerely wish that through my words its existence remains for as long as possible far beyond my time.

  1. I love the way in which you express your love for others. You seem to be a kind, sincere person. Love is the cornerstone of any relationship with God. Jesus certainly loved us to lay down His life for us.
