Riding Through

The bus stopped at a red light.

Rajiv glanced at his watch. Approximately half an hour from now, he will get down at his stop and then he will catch another bus which will take him to the bus stop which was at what he calls a “young man’s walking distance from his home”. But for now, he was here in this bus for the next 30 whole minutes.

In his right ear was tucked one of his wired earbuds. He had left the left ear vacant to allow a part of his mind to be aware of the surroundings. In the earbuds was playing one of Rajiv’s favourite playlist. It had a collection of music from the games that Rajiv loved to play on his console.

Rajiv tried his best to divert his mind from his office work. He was clearly tired and overworked. Even the thought of going back to office the next day was destroying the world of peace which he was struggling so hard to create and hold together.

Rajiv had always thought earning a good sum of money would be the real challenge of life. But, reality stood quite far from what was perceived by his mind. It was regaining the lost peace of life that stood as the biggest challenge.

The mind’s energy to think had reached its low and the eyelids had started to drop. The ear which was vacant caught the sound of speech.

“Each time I look at the moving life outside, I feel a great sadness knowing I would leave the world knowing not all of it. Then again it was never for the lack of will to do so, it was always for the lack of time…. I was so wrong.”

Rajiv turned his attention towards the window seat on his right which was occupied by an elderly woman. She turned towards him and smiled and then spoke, “A life filled with years awaits you, I hope you can find the time to do what allows you to see the most of what you possibly can.”

The woman wasn’t expecting any response and continued to look outside the window.

Rajiv sat in silence with what he felt as tears awaiting.

  1. When you are younger, you always think you have time to do it later. It’s not til you are older that you realize that while you may still have time, you may not longer have the ability to do it, depending upon what type of effort is required.
