A Fresh Narrative

Vipul wiped off the sweat from his forehead. His handkerchief had served its purpose well. The Sun was showing no mercy today. The afternoon heat had left the streets less populated.

Vipul was returning from an interview and was walking to the nearest metro train station. A gust of hot wind with dust appeared around Vipul as Vipul made an almost completely successful attempt using his right arm to not let any dust reach his face.

The first round of interview had a good beginning, Vipul was skilled at his work as a content designer and had previously worked with a popular brand in his field. But as the interview proceeded, it diverted far from the destination that Vipul had thought it would reach.

The interviewer focussed upon what Vipul did in life apart from his job. Vipul tried to recall the variety of hobbies which were part of his resume but he had not done any of them for the longest time. “I read books”, he had hurriedly said and then upon being asked about the last book that he read and whether he liked it or not, Vipul could only recall the children’s books which he had read during his school days.

Vipul was sure of securing the job on the basis of his professional excellence.

None the less, the experience had left Vipul with a question about what else was he really doing with his life. It felt like something was amiss.

Vipul had honed his skills working in different organisations, small and big, yet there was no work which he could truly call his own. Even the creative decisions at the workplace were limited to parameters of the vision fulfilment of his senior who was again fulfilling the vision of someone in higher position.

The gust of wind passed away and Vipul put down his arm. His eyes fell on a bookshop and he thought ‘a good book might just be the perfect way to start something more’.

  1. Disappointment comes to all of us. Vipul must just dust himself off and get on with his life. Maybe he should just ask God for help and next time he could get the job. Just warn him to be careful that he doesn’t let his eyes fall on something else – that can be painful. ((Just me being sarcastic. Sorry)
