Choosing the Right

Do you vote in political elections?

Election

Electorate and constituency are the words Prakriti has read and known from the very childhood..

Why?

Because on a specific month or around in each year or each two years she used to see political parties go for their own propaganda..

Then one fine day her parents, grandparents and others of the family..who attended a specific age could go to a voting centre and vote..

She asked everyone whom they have voted for …and understood it’s a personal choice very very personal… Being in the same family some could guess where as others couldn’t ..

But no one was telling whether the guess was correct or not…it’s so secret.

Prakriti was part of such an ambience where people discussed almost everything…but not whom they have given the vote to or which is their favourite party …they even discussed who can win this time or who has a hard nut to crack…. Who is a good leader and who is not…but saying out loud whom they have voted was not even discussed…

That’s the environment.

Prakriti was super excited as she was 17 years…she knew one …just one  more year then she can actually vote…choose the government… And be a contributor of democracy.

With time and classes in her school she actually understood the political parties their history and what they have done for their nation as United … Political science was one of her favourite subject… Studying that helped her in multiple ways… Understanding her nation and governing bodies… Opponent parties and many more…the idea was made and formulated into reality…

She was 18!

More than Happy Birthday she was happy about how she could finally give a vote! She could finally ride vehicles and she could finally go to college…

Yaay so many together…

It’s always the need of the political parties to go and ask people to vote for them…asking for help …asking for votes and promising several other things…and most importantly..asking the first time voters if they will vote for them…all the political parties were similar in this…

All.

Prakriti felt like a celebrity… All wants her vote! One vote is so important…each vote counts and all the motivating posters to vote and motivate others to vote was seen everywhere..

Prakriti with her parents went to the voting booth or poling station…

She voted for the first time.

What started and followed was standing in the long queue then.. entering the room… submitting documents and putting the blue impression on the index finger and she could vote..

With palpitations in the heart she our prakriti entered the booth section..the voting machine… What if I vote for the party who is least deserving? what if this particular party doesn’t win ..what if I vote and it doesn’t matter ..one vote..

She kept on thinking…

Then finally it was her time to VOTE!

She voted

peeeeeeeeeeeeeee the sound gives confirmation.

That’s it Prakriti voted for the first time…with so much mixed emotions…

Did she vote for the right party? We don’t know.. because that’s unknown to us …but yes 18 years voting and so much experience actually made her mature.

One response to “Choosing the Right”

  1. Sayoni, How disappointed you must have been after voting. Finding out that your vote made no difference. I think of voting as pulling a name out of a hat. We never really know the person or the party we are voting for. They all make so many promises, but do they ever deliver on those promises. No, they don’t. Afterwards when they are part of the government, they forget their promises and the number one person is themselves. So many of them are power hungry and they only care about filling their own pockets from the taxes imposed on the citizens. So many of the politicians are so corrupt and don’t care for the country or its people. So why become excited about elections. It is a total let down, you make no difference they all do just what they like.
