Dev Deepawali

What historical event fascinates you the most?

Hello everyone welcome to Early Morning Memories and today wishing everyone a very Happy Diwali . These festivities remind me of several happenings in childhood and in the growing up stage. We shall post a different blog some day on our experiences with Diwali as a child. Today thinking about Diwali gives us ample ways to think of positivity and here sharing with a fact on India being land of spirituality. Hope you like it.

Do you know the history of Panchganga Ghat of Varanasi ?

At the far northern end of the ghats, Panchganga Ghat gets its name from the merging of five rivers which are the Ganges, Yamuna, Saraswati, Kirana and Dhutpapa. It’s a relatively serene ghat that requires some effort to reach and has significant religious importance. The samadhi temple commemorating great Hindu yogi Trailinga Swami is situated there. Above the ghat is also the 17th century Alamgir mosque, which Mughal ruler Aurangzeb built over a Vishnu temple. The mosque is functional but only Muslims are allowed inside. If you visit the ghat during the holy Hindu month of Kartik which is about 15 days before and after Diwali, you’ll be able to see it beautifully illuminated by candle-filled baskets hanging from poles to honor ancestors. This culminates with Dev Deepavali on Kartik Purnima which is full moon night.

That’s a real story for deepawali
