Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?
When I was seven years old, I was sent to learn drawing. I never did become much of an artist but that period of time when my imagination was overflowing, drawing was an outlet to let it all out.
I would draw everywhere, drawing pad, rough notebook, school diary, school text book, desk, door, window, refrigerator, even on my own hands and legs. There was just no end to it. Therefore, my parents thought maybe that was my talent, and they were not wrong, it could have been but I don’t exactly remember how I transitioned from the world of doodling and colouring to that of words. But somewhere in my heart through the fog and through the heavy snowfall, I can still feel the existence of the artist.. waiting.
So, back when I was seven, when sometimes I went to someone’s house and they got to know that I loved drawing, they would hand me a drawing pad or anything which could be drawn upon, along with pencils and whatever form of colours they had. Now, in situations like this I had only one thing to do, that is to draw a scenery, the same one every single time and it would please them. The scenery was the one with grass covered ground, a tree with apples, a bench, a fence, the Sun, clouds and the mountains.
I have been to beaches in my country gifted with many beautiful ones. There is a small but precious part of my childhood where I lived in a coastal state with beaches. Beaches back then were very beautiful and peaceful places, very different in contrast from the crowded ones today. In the right time and moment, you can experience eternal peace sitting on the beach looking at the horizon.
Later on, my family shifted to a state which was nearer to the mountains than that it was to the beach. So, that is where I came across my experience of the mountains. It wasn’t a good one with the motion sickness due to change in elevation and the winding turns of the mountain roads. But slowly it began to sink in.
Today while working or doing anything else, when I think of an outing, I see the mountains in my mind, the endless natural beauty, the clean land and air, the peace and the breathtaking view no matter from where you are among them and the flowing stream or falling snow only adds further to its beauty. If I can one day I would like to move to the mountains for a while and who knows maybe I will finally end up writing a book.
