The respite not required

If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

Mondays are certainly not the most popular day in most people’s life, the effect of its approach even haunts over the latter half of a Sunday. Monday marks the beginning of another week of hard work throughout the day to achieve ambitions and dreams, to keep life moving with its basic requirements.

However, there is another undeniable side to the day, it is the day when you are the most energetic and productive depending upon the level of rest and relaxation you received the previous day. You begin your day with a great amount of energy which further motivates you to do more and that may not always be the best thing since there is always the possibility of over exhausting yourself and being pushed down by fatigue.

But, some among those who go through the day with high grade performance and remain without that bit of tiredness which justifies the rest needed at the end of the day often look at the hands of the clock and think if only they would stop for a while. But they won’t and we have to keep doing what we do every day because sleep is as essential as every other essential thing for our survival.

But the situation we are discussing is an imaginary one, in which we don’t actually require sleep, we can go on without it. Well, first if it were to happen now all of a sudden then I am sure a lot of studies and research would be conducted before coming to a solid conclusion, and by that time people will continue to sleep. Even if it was found with evidence that we actually don’t need sleep, it would take a lot of time for people to actually get out of the habit which has stayed with them since the existence of their species.

Second, if it is a scenario where humans never actually needed sleep then I am pretty sure by now people would have extensively figured out about what was to be done in those extra hours. There would certainly be a wider period of balancing out the things one wants to do every day in life.  One has to imagine though if it were not for sleep, could they have lived life a little bit more? Maybe.

What I may do, if not needing sleep, is write, and keep at it from day to night, the lines of words turning into an ocean which would be contained in books and stacks of them would fill the already full shelves of my study room. It would be a life truly worthwhile for me.
