Think back on your most memorable road trip.
Whenever I look into the past specifically to the parts about road trips, to be honest there haven’t been a lot but there have certainly been several memorable ones.
Whenever I think of road trips. I remember the surface of the road running by as I watch down the window of a car. The many trees and open fields which pass, that is the whole thing isn’t it, to escape the landscape with buildings to the one which takes us closer to the more natural world.
It goes without saying that road trips usually begin in the family, when we are small and living in a carefree world where almost all responsibilities are taken care of by the adults of the family. They are the trips with the most warmth and care in the world. But they are certainly not the ones when you are wholly aware of the world with enough experience, like how I later realised I had interest in capturing everything in my camera.
However, there have been other trips later as well and there will still be others in the future. I would say one of the most memorable ones was a road trip with my friends.
It was my first trip by road with my friends and it was in my college years. We had been on a trip before, we had taken a train to a place known for the view of the sea along with its beaches. But this road trip was a bit tricky one. Not only was this the first time we would drive all the way through, but it was also to a hill station. Within the limited experience we possessed of driving, there was barely any experience of driving on a hilly road.
We had made our preparations beforehand. Our families had told us several ‘what to do’ and ‘what not to do’, apart from that, we had also done our own research work thoroughly. We were on our way with a lot of excitement but also a bit of fear which lurked in everybody’s mind.
In the middle of the way we decided to head to a national park instead given the uncertainty of the hilly roads growing on the mind of one of your friends. But then he fell asleep for a while and while he was sleeping, we reached a point where the road diverged into two and we did not take the one which went towards the national park and when he woke up, we were far ahead.
The hilly roads arrived, but the one driving was quite positive and drove exceptionally well. We stopped in between to take a few photographs of us with the trees in the surrounding area until one of us said, “There aren’t any tigers in this area right, are there?” and we the less informed about the fauna of the area looked at each other and thought it would be better to get inside the car now and be on our way
But there weren’t any tigers in the area, which we got to know while having tea along with some snacks in a café ahead. But then, the one who spoke of the tigers said something else, “I think I saw someone jump down one of the elevated places, but what is funny is that I saw the same person doing the same thing again from another place.” We laughed it off, but it was not completely gone from our minds as the topic came back in the evening when we had reached our destination and settled in. It evolved into a subject of supernatural occurrences and the sound of the sudden knock on the door horrified us all. It was a person delivering the food we had ordered.
It was barely a day of trip and the next day after some sightseeing, breakfast and one of us falling down after losing balance over some rubbles, we were on our way back home. The drive downwards is where one of our friends became a bit differently opinionated while insisting more application of brakes but the driver wasn’t keen on listening to him and it was a wise choice. There were tons of jokes cracked and many words were exchanged. We don’t talk the same way any more and maybe we won’t enjoy the same way as well if it were to happen again, but the memory of it all is well within my mind.
