Bonds that grow

“What have you brought for lunch?” Samay asked to his friend Tarak

They were both in eighth grade of the same school and were also in the same section. Their friendship began in the school itself.

“I asked my mother to prepare some instant noodles today, so that might be my lunch,” replied Tarak

“Instant noodles taste so good, I made some few days back but I think I added too much water; but they still tasted good,” said Samay smiling

“I am not going to share, if that is what you are wondering,” clarified Tarak

“I will share my lunch with you too..” offered Samay

“Wait a minute… I know what this is, what is in your lunchbox? Stir fried radish and chapatis again?” asked Tarak to which Samay did not respond, “I knew it..”

“Do you both have any shame?” came a sharp voice, a voice they knew very well and most of the school was quite afraid of it

Samay and Tarak looked at the angry face of the school Principal Mrs Agashe, as they stood with raised hands outside their classroom. The principal was on a round when she came across them, lost in their talks, they did not notice her at all.

“I can see you both are in punishment, ‘AGAIN’. So, what is it this time?” asked the principal

“Both of us had to attend a birthday party and couldn’t complete the homework,” said Samay trying his best to make his lie sound real, hiding the fact that they spent the entire evening playing video games and forgot about the homework.

“It is always both of you, isn’t it?” said the principal sternly, it was decided that in the next grade Samay and Tarak would be put in two different sections of the grade in an attempt to get them away from each other’s influence. But it did not deter the friendship and it continued on as the years passed.

“Are you sure you don’t know someone named Samay Rana?” asked the HR of a company where Tarak had applied for job and apparently had Samay as well

“Yes, I am sure. If you don’t mind me asking but why are you asking?” asked Tarak

“Because his resume is almost the same as yours, even the design and format is same,” said the HR

‘Oh!’ thought Tarak, ‘he said he wanted the format of the resume so I gave him mine for reference, but it seems it is the same apart from a few changes, that idiot’

Samay had no clear plans in life, so he just focussed upon one thing, following Tarak to whatever Tarak decided to do in life. They did separate when Tarak with his better academic performance in the last two grades of school got admission in a prestigious university while Samay with his barely above average grades had to go for another university but in the same subject.

“You need to make changes to your resume or try applying at different places,” said Tarak to Samay

“Why? Are there any faults in your resume? Tell me I will correct it in mine,” said Samay

“Your resume is mine, that is the problem. Make more changes, it will probably be better if your remade it from scratch,” said Tarak

A few days later Samay received an e-mail.

“I have been asked for an interview as TechFast Solutions,” said Samay

“Nice” said Tarak who couldn’t believe they had not responded to Tarak’s resume and had rather done it for Samay’s.

“I think, it might not be a company suitable for me,” Tarak said to his mother, “maybe the salary offered is the issue, you know companies look for people whom they have to pay less”

In the end Samay referred Tarak to his company and that’s how both of them ended up together in the same company.

“You know, we have been friends longer than anyone I have known,” said Tarak one day to Samay in the office cafeteria

“I know people who have been friends for a long. People can be friends for as long as they want,” said Samay

.. and both of them still continue to be good friends and if anything interesting does occur in their friendship, I will let you know.
