Precious Dose of Sweetness

What’s your favorite candy?

As time passes by and you see kids spending more time with electronics and gadgets than what came naturally once, you begin to wonder if their childhood gained more or lost more.

When I was a kid, I became very excited at the sight of chocolates and candies. Anyone who came by the house always brought some. I don’t know if the companies have made any changes in the way they make chocolates and candies nowadays or not, but they have certainly lost that amazing taste they used to have back then.

As a kid, candies were the precious stones of my life. If they didn’t have an expiry date, I  probably would have kept them for a long time. Candies were the wealth which got me on the better side of many around my age, so their presence in my pocket was always welcome except when sometimes, my mother would find them in the washing machine. When I would go to a grocery shop with my mother, I would stare at those big jars containing a variety of candies. There used to be so many, staring back at me.

I have spent time enjoying many types of candies. Tear through the packet of one and place it on the tongue in mouth, the flavours would spread into a feeling while the candy slowly melted away. There was time for the experience and also the thought at that age.

As I grew, my preference changed from hard candies to toffees, because toffee could be chewed for an enhanced flavourful experience. The companies that made these toffees became quite creative about it, making them with another flavour hidden within, or putting liquid chocolate or any other sweet syrup waiting to surprise. I enjoyed them for a long time.

It has been some time since I have eaten candies, but if I had to select one today then, it would certainly be the coffee flavoured toffee. It was the reason that later on in life I preferred coffee over any other beverage. It had been absent from the shops for many days, but one day last year in the month of September, I found it in a shop and bought it but the addictive eating that followed later led me to reconsider my decision of buying it further.
