That Unique Spark

What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

In several movies and books there are characters whose abilities and skills make them a superhero or perhaps a very good agent of a high-profile spy organisation or simply exceptional. Many of us whether we openly accept it or not at some point of life or still are, expecting to find within ourselves one of these abilities which will make us quite remarkable.

I do want to clarify that it’s not some crazy superhuman ability which makes us remarkable, but it’s gradually becoming better and better at what we do to the point where we become remarkable. This attraction to this superficial ability might just be an unfulfilled childhood yearning of mine.

When I was small, I was a kid who could run the fastest in my society and it meant a lot at that time because it truly felt like it was something special that only I could do. It meant I had a certain edge in a sport like football. Then when my family shifted to another state, I found myself at the opposite end of that feeling. I was amongst the slowest in this new society. I had lost my unique ability.

But thanks to that, I learnt in life that one needs to have more than one skill in hand in order to attempt to outperform or outwit others. It’s only the amalgamation of several abilities which increases our chances of getting a desired outcome.

Although I am not muscular or athletic in any manner in the present, in some part of my mind I still think I possess a physical ability which is greater than most. Now the part of me which is a thoughtful adult does know the reality of what would actually occur if such a situation was to present itself, where I might need this exceptional ability of mine. But it never hurts to have that extra bit of confidence.
