The Initial Hour

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

I have met a fair share of positive people in my life. The best thing about them is, no matter what their profession or financial and family condition, these people have cracked the code to lessen the amount of worry and anxiety and you will almost always catch them with a genuine smile.

A few of them I have known closely and one thing I noticed common among them was that they have a productive morning. My paternal grandmother was one of them, she was a housewife, she woke up early and went for a morning walk at 5:30 in the morning, on her way back she would go to the market to buy fresh vegetables and dairy products, she would be back between 7:30-7:45. Then she meditated for the next thirty minutes and then she would begin her household work with preparation of breakfast.

The early start to the day allowed my grandmother to schedule her day quite efficiently around her responsibilities, hobbies and part time work as a dance teacher and she rose early right on time even on her final day. The parts of her life in which I have been present, I would say she remained pretty balanced in 90% of them.

Me on the other hand am not like my grandmother at all. I do love the idea of an early morning, as you may have guessed by the name of our page, but I have failed to maintain any balance between the time I stay awake and the time I sleep. I sleep late and I wake up early, and trust me that is not good at all especially for people who are into writing with the need to constantly juggle thoughts in mind and dive deep into them.

On a Monday it feels great, after a restful Sunday it feels fine waking up even after a late night but right on the next week day, Tuesday the lack of sleep can be felt and as the week progresses my early mornings begin to lose the ‘early’ part, one letter per day.

But when I do have a good early morning, the first hour includes brushing teeth, preparing coffee and starting to water the plants in my little garden while thinking of a thing or two or perhaps jogging through a memory. In the end an early morning will always achieve more than a late night, something many like me fail to understand time and again.
