Where we belong

How would you improve your community?

We are all part of a community in one way or another. According to some, it’s bigger than what any border can define and then there are also those who may think of it as something which exists within the area in which they reside.

Living in a community means we are among people with whom we share a certain belief, idea or goal and we also interact with them to sustain and strengthen the same.

There can be various factors on which a community can be based, it can be geographical like a town, a particular culture or religion followed by people or professions like writers or doctors. There is also a widespread increasing trend in a community developing on the basis of interests in anything in particular, for example a group of people having interest in cars. Online groups and forums are also forming with social media having become a community itself.

How does a community help us? People can find a sense of belonging and connection amongst people in a community, interactions or activities together give something for the people to look forward to, there is a sense of unity because of the shared interests or beliefs helping people stay motivated and strong, and the most important part is that a community is a great support system within which everyone helps and supports each other.

Now, what community do I belong to? If it were only that easy to define, like my grandfather who was a journalist and right to the end he remained connected to the community of journalists.

When I started writing I experienced this increasing urge to be in isolation to develop my thoughts, a reason why my headphones are overused, but yes everything I put into writing comes from the community or rather all forms or communities out there, so this is my connection to the community. But, yes I am more influenced by the community defined by my culture and geography.

As a writer I like to think that I am open to all forms of things, with limitations of course, but it is simply not possible, because as a community is how we effectively function, while not all communities mean well, but I would like to believe most of them do and if there is a change I would like to recommend then it would be to keep holding on united and strong in the present world where the reasons for breaking apart has become far too many.
