What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?
If something is part of routine it most likely won’t be skipped. Consciously or subconsciously, we will be pulled towards it, and quite strongly.
Many of us do believe a routine is a conscious decision, and for the most part they are right, but there is that small area that looks small but is actually bigger than what we can imagine, and that is the area where things become part of the routine on their own.
For example, I think I made a poor decision by shifting to social media as a source of news from the news applications themselves. All the newspapers have their page on social media, they are quite active with their visually intriguing posts, the best part is that all the news are very brief so you can go through a lot in a short amount of time. So, reading news is part of my routine, I went from newspaper to e-paper and from there to social media and from there right to the comment section to read opinions of people and before I knew I was writing comments myself in support or against an issue. The routine expanded on its own, now I do it even after trying to tell myself ‘you are going to lose a lot of time here which will affect the rest of the day.’
That is something I would like to skip; I don’t mind going back to the e-paper and not looking for a particular news on social media to write a big comment which probably no one will ever read with the comment being five times bigger than the news themselves. I can also do something else, read the thing and if I want to write I can write it here, let’s see what ends up being part of routine.

“What an insightful reflection, Anuran! 🌟 I really liked how you explored the subtle ways routines shape themselves without us realizing it. Your example about social media and news consumption is so relatable—it perfectly captures how habits evolve and sometimes take control of our time. A beautifully honest and engaging read!”
