To reclaim a moment

You know that feeling, when you are fifteen minutes away from leaving work, but the heavy rain hasn’t stopped and is showing no sign of slowing down, you already know some roads will be ineffectively trying to drain out excess water, the traffic will be immense and after struggling in bus and then the local train, you are inevitably going to reach home late, tired, but you will have to wake up and be at office at the same time next day, perhaps even leave home early if the rains continued.

Sarisha was going through that feeling. She felt a little sad at this fading love for the rain, something she thought would never happen.

She looked around, there was the manager who had begun to joke about staying a bit more and working rather than going out in this inconvenient rain. Some colleagues were really worried about being home on time with their family or something else they might have planned. Some who had nothing to do back home were enjoying the thought of staying late while planning to order some eatables from the nearby food stall.

It felt unfair. Last couple of days had been quite humid. The weather app had forecasted rain on the weekend. Sarisha waited for it, but it never arrived. It had been a very long time since Sarisha, at home, sat near the window in the afternoon with a cup of black tea and enjoyed the cool air that passed through the window screen, while the rain fell outside on its own rhythm. Sometimes, Sarisha felt she had lost that moment for a long time, maybe forever.

“One day you are going to have a lot of time for it all and no one’s going to bother you,” said Sarisha’s grandmother during a conversation with Sarisha that night after dinner.

Sarisha felt like there was still something missing in that moment she imagined. There might not be a time of having it at all at a moment, but we make our contention and find a way to our happiness through it all.
