If you could erase one movie from your memory and watch it again for the first time, which one would it be?
Watching movies can be an interesting experience based on how you see them, the depth that you are ready to dive into while watching them.
Are you quite observant of things like what music is playing in the background or the detailing in the environment shown, or how natural the expressions look simultaneously with the body language or maybe you are looking for indications of what is going to happen ahead? Then you have a lot more to discover when you see the movie the next time and also the next time after that. Like with suspense movies, most think now that the suspense is out, there is nothing else, but that’s where they are wrong, the second time is just as interesting as you begin to pick on the subtle hints that you completely missed the first time, I find it a good experience.
Movies nowadays, I think they are in abundance, especially with movies from all nations around becoming popular globally as well. There are probably more movies than what one can possibly watch with their limited time. So, in such a time if one goes back to a movie, it is either exceptionally good or has a fond memory or strong feeling of nostalgia. I have sometimes found myself watching a movie again just for the fact that I wouldn’t have to focus much on it and I can also interact with other thoughts in mind or also indulge in work. Well yes there are professionals, students, die-hard fans, and more out there who can be exceptions.
If I had to erase a movie from my memory and watch it again the first time, practically at this point of life I might not end up watching it at all. My OTT applications have quite a long list of incomplete movies and shows, my attention span with them is shortening. Although I do make sure to watch the documentaries completely most of the time.
So, I am tired most of the days because of work and planning of what’s to come, also fulfilling my responsibilities, of course with my wonderful partner. So if I were to erase the memory and watch it again the first time, the magic wouldn’t happen again that happened the first time, it’s not just me, it’s everything around me as well, that has happened, has changed and although we might not like to say it but, moved on.

One response to “On the other Side of Screen”
A deeply thoughtful and relatable reflection on how we experience films not just as entertainment, but as layered emotional and intellectual journeys. The piece beautifully captures the difference between passive viewing and truly observant watching—where music, expressions, details, and foreshadowing all become part of a richer second experience.
