What’s a word or phrase that annoys you?
Despite being an adult, I have not completely embraced adulthood. I have tried to take life in a light tone, that said I don’t take things lightly or am not serious when required, it’s just that I prefer to take the path with a humorous touch. That’s one side of me, the other thoughtful one, if you were to catch me in that zone, you would find I have left the reality of the present in my mind.
Now, this humorous approach has a problem, sure it brings smiles and laughter. Helps people be more open, feel more connected but at the same time some people from within they are like ‘wait why doesn’t he show enough seriousness like us, maybe he takes things very lightly, maybe he is ‘immature’. Yes, that’s one word I don’t like to use anywhere whether in speaking or writing.
I think it is one of the most discriminating words very commonly and openly used throughout time. Among siblings, couples, friends, classmates, colleagues, etc and there is no end to it. It could have sounded nice if it were used in a better tone, but has ended up becoming the tip of the spear to attack someone with the expectation to create a certain amount of emotional damage.
Like at a point of time in college, almost everyone claimed the other to be immature and I realised if someone actually asked out loud ‘who is mature here?’ Everyone would probably point towards themselves and someone would probably feel and say ‘it’s scripted’. In workplace well we know the hierarchy of maturity and immaturity often associated with the positions, I have heard it being to told to multiple people ‘now you will tell me how it is to be done’, basically later he or she would be labelled unprofessional and immature in discussion by that senior.
I believe everyone has the right to be anyone they want to be unless it’s harming someone or we do make those justified compromises for those close to us. In the end it’s our versions of life and world that we live in and we have every right to paint it our way.
