Adding Words

If your pet could talk, what would be the first thing it says?

That thing that people say to each other, when they have spent some good years together, something about knowing what the other is thinking without any actual words spoken. This is something we form with many other living beings as well and what is a better example than our bond with our pets.

I don’t think I have ever had this question in my mind about any of my pet dogs that what if he or she could speak, because I believe right from the moment they arrive in the house as puppies, like a newborn member of the family, we open our hearts to them and the series of understandings begin right from that first visual connection.

Yes, I will agree when my dog is not well and I am feeling tense, I wish she would just speak up what is making her feel uneasy, otherwise I think we have a near perfect understanding about things; after all its simple things of life that surround their existence, we are the ones with the complex version of it.

The concept of talking to animals, it’s there in movies, books. Either naturally or through some invention or perhaps a person with an actual ability to do so. It is very interesting but I have never been quite attracted to the idea enough to wish it happened in real life as well.

But here I am indulging in a bit of imagination. My dog, she is right beside me right now, sleeping after barking and running around all morning. At this moment if she could speak in human speech, she would probably ask me not to get up from my chair in a while otherwise she would have to get up as well for me to walk by. If she wasn’t sleeping, she would be asking for a chew stick, not the broken ones, she only prefers the whole long ones, not only for eating but mostly tossing around and also for the self-assurance that it is there within her reach. The other thing she would ask is to let her out in the compound, to run about or have a nap with more connection to the outside world than what is available within the house.

Then of course the occasional wanting to eat what I am having or the head scratches. In all, these are all simple things of life and I am quite envious, that this is all that is required to spend a whole lifetime, apart from the bonds formed. So, here we are as a family and with perfect understanding of each other and happy with each other’s existence, no matter how temporary any of this togetherness might be.
