What’s one thing you own that holds deep sentimental value?
One day I was looking for a Micro USB Type B charging wire for an old speaker and I found the wrapper of a white chocolate-covered wafer bar. I loved it, it used to come with free stickers of superheroes. I still remember the distinct taste; nothing tastes like it but sadly for some reason it was discontinued and sadly I forgot when I had it the last time.
There was a time when I used to have a variety of such wrappers before they were found out and thrown and I was called simply too lazy to throw them. But it wasn’t laziness, they meant something more for an imaginative person like me who usually saw more. There were many other things like parts of broken toys, caps of pens or whole pens, caps of soft drink bottles, stones with unique shapes and leaves among others. Where one could see just something useless that should be thrown out, I always saw more, more of what the parts of my imagination picked from the memories and experiences and added to make it a whole.
But it isn’t just me, others have it too, might not be on a big scale, but everyone has something that means more than its literal existence. Time comes and passes by, our minds collect these memories, and then there are these things that act as reminders of those beautiful memories.
I have largely detached myself from such attachments in the present, because as people passed away in the family, it was becoming too difficult on the mind and heart to keep it all with constant worry about losing something. So, I decided to free my mind and heart but what I still hold on to with sentimentality is my collection of photos and videos and I have a lot of them like I have to clear my phone once every month or there would be no space. I think this is a good medium to support my sentimentality with a more, clear view, giving my thoughts and imagination more to relive.
